Justification
Xyris gerrardii is a widespread and common species. Although there are many ongoing threats to its habitat, it is not yet in danger of extinction.

Range
Xyris gerrardii occurs from the Soutpansberg and Blouberg in northern Limpopo Province to the KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg. It also occurs in Zimbabwe and Tanzania.

Description
This species occurs among grasses in swamps and along rivers.
Threats
Parts of this species' range are impacted by habitat loss and degradation, particularly loss to urban and agricultural expansion, as well as timber plantations. Spreading, unmanaged alien invasive plants are outcompeting native species at many localities.
