A range-restricted (EOO 408 km²), but locally fairly common subspecies. In spite of extensive habitat loss, it is estimated to still remain at between eight and 10 locations, but continues to decline due to ongoing habitat loss and degradation.
Distribution
Endemism

Provincial distribution
Northern Cape, Western Cape
Range
Bokkeveld Escarpment around Nieuwoudtville to Botterkloof.
Habitat and Ecology

Major habitats
Hantam Karoo, Nieuwoudtville Shale Renosterveld, Vanrhynsdorp Shale Renosterveld, Bokkeveld Sandstone Fynbos
Description
Seasonally damp, shallow sandy or clay soils on flats.
Threats
This subspecies has already lost more than 30% of its habitat to agricultural expansion across the Bokkeveld Escarpment. Although ploughing of especially clay soils has largely ceased, there is still ongoing, sporadic expansion of crop fields. The population has been fragmented, and in some places, remaining subpopulations are threatened by overgrazing, due to overstocking of remnants of natural vegetation. Alien invasive plants have been observed in subpopulations south of Nieuwoudtville, and if left unmanaged, are likely to cause habitat degradation and competition to this subspecies in future.
Population

This subspecies is locally abundant across the Bokkeveld Escarpment.
