Description | Rocky places, often somewhat damp, sheltered places in association with moisture runoff such as along watercourses or in gorges. |
Threats |
This species is threatened by ongoing habitat degradation due to severe overstocking of livestock, causing a loss of shrub cover, species diversity, as well as erosion in places. Currently, overgrazing is causing population decline around Kubus, the Ploegberg, Eksteenfontein and Steinkopf. Some subpopulations occur in the central Richtersveld mountains where grazing pressure is currently low, but as rangelands on the flats and closer to settlements are becoming increasingly degraded, herders are moving their flocks into the mountains in search of better grazing, and grazing pressure is likely to increase in these areas in future. |
Population |
This species is a localized habitat specialist, occurring in small, scattered subpopulations.
