Range
This species is widespread across eastern South Africa, from the Mpumalanga Drakensberg southwards through KwaZulu-Natal, the eastern Free State and mountains of the Eastern Cape as far south as Grahamstown. It extends further north to central and East Africa as well as Madagascar.

Description
It is restricted to high altitude montane grassland, where it is most commonly found along damp margins of streams or springs or next to seepage areas along the base of cliffs or forest margins.
