Justification
EOO 11 166 km², this subspecies is not well documented in the northern section of its range, but around Grahamstown it is very common and not threatened. Being cryptic, it is easily overlooked.

Among rocks in open grassland associated with thicket.
Threats
Although some areas where this species occurs are transformed for agriculture, and others are affected by overgrazing, this species is still very common. It does not appear to be grazed, and there are no known traditional uses of this plant.
Population

The species is very common in the Grahamstown area, and subpopulations are large and extensive. This species is much more common than the small number of very old historical collections indicate. It is also cryptic and therefore easily overlooked.
