Brunia monostyla is a rare species with a restricted distribution range, and has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 3913 km². Its habitat is well-protected and it has no severe threats. It is not suspected to be in danger of extinction, and is therefore listed as Least Concern.

This species is endemic to the mountains of the Western Cape, South Africa, where it occurs from the upper Olifants River Valley to Ceres and the mountains around Worcester.
