Justification
Lampranthus purpureus is a poorly known species, last recorded in the wild in the 1930s. Based on currently available data, its risk of extinction cannot be assessed, and is therefore listed as Data Deficient.

This species is endemic to South Africa, and is known from a single collection from the Olifants River Valley at Keerom.

Description
Its precise habitat is not known, it is suspected to occur on rocky slopes in sandstone fynbos.
Threats
There are no known threats to Lampranthus purpureus.
Population

This species is only known from the type collection, dating from the 1930s. It is possibly overlooked, as Lampranthus is taxonomically problematic and in need of revision, making most specimens difficult to identify with certainty. Field surveys are needed to relocate this species in the wild. Currently, nothing is known about the population size, structure or trend.
