Colchicum coloratum subsp. burchellii is a widespread and common taxon, and is not in danger of extinction. It has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 19 645 km², and is therefore listed as Least Concern.

Range
This taxon is endemic to South Africa, and occurs from the Bokkeveld Escarpment to the Roggeveld Escarpment and the Tanqua Karoo, extending southwards to Montagu.

Description
It grows on shale and dolerite flats in renosterveld and succulent karoo.
Threats
A very small proportion of this subspecies' habitat has been lost to crop cultivation (Less than 10% in total). There is no significant ongoing habitat loss.
