Cassytha pondoensis is a widespread, but rarely recorded species. It is suspected to be overlooked, rather than rare or threatened.

This species occurs in the coastal areas of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, extending northwards through Mozambique to Tanzania and Malawi.

Description
It is a parasitic climber, sprawling over shrubs and trees in open woodland, wooded grassland, riverine forest and coastal thicket.
Population

This species is known from only a few records, but is likely overlooked and confused with the common and widespread Cassytha filiformis. Field surveys are needed to gain a better understanding of its abundance and distribution range within South Africa.
