Justification
A very widespread species with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 156 316 km². It is declining due to overgrazing, but is not yet suspected to be in danger of extinction. It is therefore assessed as Least Concern.

Range
This species is widespread across the Eastern Cape Drakensberg, Lesotho and the south-eastern Free State. An outlying subpopulation occurs on the Nuweveld Mountains at Beaufort West.

Description
This species occurs in sandy soils along streams or rocky mountain slopes at high altitudes.
Threats
This species is highly palatable and disappears in overgrazed areas (Fish et al. 2015). Parts of this species' habitat has been severely overgrazed, but the extent of the impact on the population is not known.
