Justification
This taxon has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 12 687 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 216 km². It is known from more than 25 subpopulations. Much of its habitat is protected within mountain reserves. It is not declining and is not in danger of extinction. It is therefore listed as Least Concern.

This subspecies is endemic to the Western Cape Province of South Africa, extending from the Olifants River Mountains and Pakhuis Pass to Tulbagh and Piketberg.

Description
It occurs in fynbos and renosterveld, on rocky sandstone slopes or on gravelly shale.
Threats
This subspecies has lost 42% of its habitat (calculated using landcover data in GIS) due to crop cultivation. There is also ongoing habitat degradation due to too frequent fires and alien invasive species.
Population

This subspecies remains relatively widespread and it is known from more than 25 subpopulations. Loss and degradation of habitat are causing a slow decline in the population.
