This taxon has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 90 615 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 698 km². It is widespread and common in areas that are not highly transformed. It is therefore listed as Least Concern.

Range
It has a wide distribution in the mountains of the Western and Eastern Cape provinces, South Africa, from the Cold Bokkeveld to the Suurberg north of Uitenhage.

Description
This taxon occurs in arid fynbos, fynbos-renosterveld transitions on lower slopes and occasionally succulent karoo in the Little Karoo. It is found most frequently in rocky sandstone derived soils, but also sometimes on shale.
Threats
Currently, there are no severe threats to this taxon, but it has lost parts of its habitat to agriculture and urban development in the past.
Population

This taxon is common within its habitat and it has many subpopulations throughout its range. As there are no severe threats to this species, the population is not suspected to be declining.
