Justification | Babiana hypogaea is a relatively widespread species and has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 467 306 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 124 km². Globally, it has an EOO of 1 231 698 km², and an AOO of 152 km² across South Africa and Namibia. It is known from over 50 subpopulations and is listed as Least Concern. |

The population is widespread across the Northern Cape and Free State provinces of South Africa, and the south-eastern area of Namibia. More than 50 subpopulations are known.
