Higher Classification | Monocotyledons |
Family | IRIDACEAE |
National Status |
Status and Criteria | Near Threatened B1ab(i,ii,iii,iv,v)+2ab(i,ii,iii,iv,v) |

Justification | This species has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 1308 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 156 km². It is known from between 12-15 locations, and declining due to ongoing habitat loss to wheat and Rooibos cultivation, and degradation of habitat by invasive alien plants. It almost qualifies as Vulnerable under criteria B, and is therefore listed as Near Threatened. |
Distribution |
Endemism | South African endemic |

Threats |
At least 37% (calculated using landcover data in GIS) of this species' habitat has been significantly reduced by wheat and rooibos tea cultivation, but it is still fairly common (P. Goldblatt 2006). There is ongoing degradation of habitat by invasive alien plants. |
Population |
Although this species is locally common, little is known about its population trends and size. Subpopulations remain in small fragments of natural vegetation. It continues to decline due to ongoing habitat loss to agriculture.
