Assessor(s)
P. Goldblatt, L. von Staden & T. Patel
Justification
This species has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 536 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 28 km². It is known from five locations. It is potentially threatened by habitat loss to crop cultivation and overgrazing and is therefore listed as Vulnerable under criterion D.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Northern Cape
Range
It is endemic to South Africa, and occurs in the Roggeveld Escarpment around Sutherland in the Northern Cape.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Roggeveld Karoo, Roggeveld Shale Renosterveld
Description
It grows on stony clay slopes in mountain renosterveld.
Threats
This species has lost less than 2% of its habitat (calculated using landcover data in GIS) to crop fields in the past, but there has been no expansion of crop fields for over 24 years as the area is only marginally suited to crop cultivation. Large areas of the Roggeveld are severely overgrazed, and habitat degradation due to overgrazing is a potential threat.
Population

The population has a stable trend and is known from five subpopulations.
