Justification
Freesia occidentalis is widespread with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 11 451 km², and area of occupancy (AOO) of 76 km². It is found between 15 and 17 subpopulations, and is not in danger of extinction. It is therefore listed as Least Concern.

Range
It is endemic to South Africa, and is found from Calvinia to the eastern margins of the Cederberg and Swartruggens mountains to Laingsburg.

Description
It occurs in arid sandstone fynbos or dry loamy soils along foothills where renosterveld grades into succulent karoo, preferring south-facing slopes.
Threats
This species does not have any major threats and is not in danger of extinction.
Population

It is a rarely seen species (Manning and Goldblatt 2010), but may also be overlooked as it occurs in an area that is botanically still fairly poorly explored. The population has a stable trend and is known from between 15-17 subpopulations.
