Justification
This species is widespread and common. It has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 122 640 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 116 km². It is not in danger of extinction, and is therefore listed as Least Concern.

It is endemic to South Africa and is widespread across the central interior of South Africa in the drainage basins of the Orange and Vaal Rivers.

Description
It is wedged among rocks on lower, southern slopes of the dolerite and dolomite outcrops. It is also common on the koppies around Kimberley.
Threats
One of the threats to this species is predation by baboons, porcupines, and other herbivores (Manning and Goldblatt 2010).

The population has a stable trend. Plants are locally abundant (Manning and Goldblatt 2010).
