Justification
This is a localized but locally abundant species with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of less than 8 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 8 km². It is not declining despite habitat transformation and degradation. Globally, it is listed as Least Concern, and nationally, as Rare.

Range
It is endemic to South Africa, and is found in the Langeberg foothills near Grootvadersbos in Western Cape.
Habitat and Ecology

Major habitats
Swellendam Silcrete Fynbos
Description
It occurs in forest margins in loamy clay.
Threats
This species has lost 89% of its habitat (calculated using landcover data in GIS). Although this species' habitat is extensively transformed and degraded, it does not appear to have impacted the population. It can still be found growing in the same area where it was first collected in 1775 (P. Goldblatt pers. comm.).
Population

This highly localized, but locally abundant species continues to thrive despite extensive degradation, transformation and disturbance of its habitat. Plants can be found growing on roadside banks and cuttings, in pastures and exotic timber plantations, and among invasive thickets of wattle. The population numbers many thousands of plants (P. Goldblatt pers. comm.) and is not declining.
