EOO 16 800 km², but more than 20 locations known. The habitat is not seriously threatened and this species is not likely to be threatened by extinction.

Description
Creeper among bushes in wooded ravines or thicket vegetation.
Threats
The habitat is not seriously threatened as it is not suitable for agriculture or development, but it is occasionally degraded due to overgrazing. This however does not appear to affect this species as it is relatively common and not threatened (Van Wyk and Smith 1996).

A. ciliaris is a hexaploid form (containing six duplicates of the basic chromosomes) of a species formerly recognized as A. tidmarshii (Brandham and Carter 1990).
