Population

This species is declining on the Cape lowlands due to habitat loss to urban expansion, crop cultivation and dense infestations of alien invasive plants, and have become rare on the Cape Flats (Goldblatt and Manning 2011). Numerous old records indicate that it was once common on the Cape Peninsula. However, a large number of recent survey records by volunteers of the Custodians of Rare and Endangered Wildflowers (CREW) Programme indicates that it can still be found in a number of places on the Cape lowlands. Subpopulations in montane areas are not threatened.
