Threats
Romulea obscura is threatened by ongoing habitat loss to agricultural expansion, particularly in the Sandveld between Hopefield and Clanwilliam. It has declined on the Cape Flats due to habitat loss to urban expansion, and remaining subpopulations are threatened by competition from dense, unmanaged alien invasive plants. On the Agulhas Plain, most subpopulations are also threatened by competition from alien invasive plants.
