National Status
Status and Criteria

Assessment Date

Assessor(s)
D. Pillay, D. Raimondo, R.C. Turner & L. von Staden
Justification
A range-restricted (EOO 1 816 km²) and apparently rare species known from only a few collections. It is suspected however to be more common than observations indicate, as plants flower only in response to fire. This species occurs in mountainous areas where it is not threatened.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
Cederberg, Cold Bokkeveld and Piketberg mountains.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Fynbos
Description
Stony sandstone soils at middle to upper elevations.
Threats
No known threats.
Population

Flowering stimulated by fire, and this species can only be observed in recently burnt vegetation, which may explain the few collections. From specimen labels it appears that even in post-fire conditions subpopulations are very small.

Population trend
Stable
Conservation
Cederberg Wilderness Area.
