Moraea hainebachiana has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 56 km². Eight known locations continue to decline due to ongoing habitat loss to development and mining. It is listed as Vulnerable under criterion B.

Description
It occurs in seasonally damp, shallow soils on limestone outcrops close to the coast.
Threats
Moraea hainebachiana is threatened by ongoing habitat loss to coastal development and limestone mining.
Population

This species is a localized habitat specialist, but locally common in suitable habitat. The plant appears to reproduce entirely vegetatively, and form clonal clusters. Flowering and growth appears to be stimulated by good rainfall, with subpopulations appearing much smaller in years of drought (J.G. Claassens pers. obs.).
