Justification
Moraea fergusoniae has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 8956 km². Although this species has lost habitat to wheat cultivation, there are still an estimated 15-25 extant locations. It continues to decline due to ongoing habitat loss. It is listed as Near Threatened under criterion B.

Description
It occurs on low altitude clay slopes and flats in renosterveld.
Threats
More than 70% of this species' habitat has been lost to crop cultivation, and only small, isolated fragments remain. Habitat loss and degradation, particularly due to inappropriate fire management and overgrazing continues, but this species is somewhat resilient to disturbance. It is however likely to continue to decline due to ongoing habitat loss across its range.
Population

Moraea fergusoniae flowers poorly except when the surrounding bush is cleared, burned or heavily overgrazed (Goldblatt 1986). In spite of extensive habitat loss, it is still fairly common. It has been recently recorded in at least 14 locations.
