Description
It occurs in sandy flats and lower mountain slopes.
Threats
Threats to Moraea lurida include changes in native species dynamics, habitat degradation and invasive alien species.
Population

A very common species on sandy mountain soils throughout the Caledon district. It is however seldom recorded as it flowers in large numbers only in recently burnt fynbos (Goldblatt 1976). It is especially common in the Kleinrivier Mountains between Hermanus and Stanford (Goldblatt 1986).
