Rocky clay flats and low hills.
Threats
Parts of this species' habitat are cultivated, however, the area is only marginally suited to crop cultivation, and further expansion is rare and sporadic, and unlikely to severely threaten the survival of this species. Less than 5% of its habitat is currently irreversibly modified, mostly around Nieuwoudtville.
Population

This species was previously thought to be rare, but turned out to be merely under-collected, as it flowers well outside of the peak spring flowering season, and flowers are only open for a very short period in the late afternoon (Goldblatt and Manning 2009). Its known range is still very limited, but it is very common within this area, and may still be found over a much wider area.
