Assessment Date | 2023/10/09 |
Assessor(s) | L. von Staden |
Justification | This taxon has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 1 078 km², and known from five locations. It continues to decline due to ongoing habitat loss and competition from alien invasive plants. It is therefore listed as Endangered under criterion B. |
Distribution |
Endemism | South African endemic |
Provincial distribution | Western Cape |
Range | This taxon is endemic to South Africa, and is found from Paarl to Rawsonville. |
Habitat and Ecology |

Major habitats | Hawequas Sandstone Fynbos, Breede Alluvium Fynbos, Breede Shale Fynbos, Western Coastal Shale Band Vegetation, Peninsula Granite Fynbos, Boland Granite Fynbos |
Description | It occurs in lower and mid elevations on rocky sandstone slopes. |
Threats |
It has lost nearly 60% of its habitat to vineyards in the Breede River Valley and on the lower slopes of Paarl Mountain, and loss continues. In Du Toit's Kloof it is threatened by rapidly spreading, uncontrolled alien invasive plants. |
Population |
A seldom collected, but relatively common taxon (Goldblatt 1989). There has been only two records in the past 15 years, with the rest of the locations known through historical records. One location between Worcester and Wolseley was lost to vineyard expansion between 1990 and 2014.
