Assessor(s) | H. Mtshali |
Justification | A range-restricted species (EOO 425 km²), less than ten severely fragmented subpopulations are remaining after most of this species' habitat has been transformed by forestry plantations and it continues to decline due to competition from unmanaged alien invasive plants. |
Distribution |
Endemism | South African endemic |
Provincial distribution | KwaZulu-Natal |
Range | KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. |
Habitat and Ecology |
Major system | Terrestrial |
Major habitats | Midlands Mistbelt Grassland, Mooi River Highland Grassland |
Description | Mistbelt grassland. |
Threats |
Rapidly expanding agriculture and timber plantations have caused the loss of more than 70% of this species' habitat, and fragmented the population into small, isolated subpopulations. These continue to decline due to ongoing habitat loss and degradation, particularly spreading, unmanaged alien invasive plants. |
