Justification | A widely distributed species (EOO 21 600 km²) occurring on clay soils throughout the Overberg, the Riversdale Plain, the Little Karoo and Upper Breede River Valley. It has lost habitat throughout its range to crop cultivation (over 70% in the past 80 years). At least 50% of the 112 known subpopulations have been lost to crop cultivation. It is still found on renosterveld fragments in the Overberg. We suspect that at least 25% of its habitat has been lost in past 30 years which corresponds to three generations (generation length 10-15 years). There is a linear relationship between habitat availability and the number of subpopulations of this species. |
