Notes |
The identity of Watsonia wordsworthiana is somewhat problematic. There are no known wild populations that correspond to the type which is a tall pink -flower plant with a narrowly flared upper perianth tube. It appears morphologically intermediate between W. meriana and W. borbonica subsp. ardernei. Both these species occur in the vicinity of Romans River farm in the upper Breede River valley near Wolseley, the type locality, but plants matching exactly the type W. wordsworthiana have not been located there since the collection of the type. Plants were cultivated at Kirstenbosch for several years before the species was described. |
