Population

Ferraria ornata is a habitat specialist endemic to Namaqualand Strandveld. It is currently known from only two subpopulations about 100 km apart, and is possibly overlooked elsewhere, as it flowers early in the season (May to June). It appears to be rare, as on both occasions it was collected only a few plants could be found.
