National Status
Status and Criteria

Justification
A localized species (EOO 976 km²), known from less than 10 locations but likely to be more common as it occurs in a remote and botanically poorly explored area. It is not threatened and the population is stable.
Distribution
Endemism
Not endemic to South Africa
Provincial distribution
Northern Cape
Range
Richtersveld and southern Namibia.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Tatasberg Mountain Succulent Shrubland, Central Richtersveld Mountain Shrubland, Kahams Mountain Desert, Richtersberg Mountain Desert, Noms Mountain Desert
Description
Wedged in cracks among large rocks on dry mountain slopes.
Threats
Livestock is allowed in the Richtersveld National Park and overgrazing is causing serious damage to natural vegetation (Jordaan and Van Wyk 2005), but due to its growth form and habitat, rocky slopes, and its unpalability it is unlikely to be affected grazing. It is however potentially threatened by habitat degradation due to trampling and erosion, but field observations indicate that most subpopulations are stable at present.
Population

A very localized and newly described species endemic to the Richtersveld that is known only from few collections, but could possibly be more common than the records indicate, as much of its range is in very remote areas, and remains botanically poorly explored.
