Justification
Hydrocotyle bonariensis is a widespread and still relatively common species in spite of extensive habitat loss and degradation across its range. It is not yet considered to be in danger of extinction.

Range
This species has a wide distribution in tropical and subtropical America and Africa, extending across eastern coast of South Africa, from Kosi Bay in KwaZulu-Natal to Mkambati in the Eastern Cape.

Description
It occurs in sandy soils near brackish lagoons, peaty depressions and in ditches.
Threats
There are no known severe threats to the species. The habitat in some areas is heavily infested with alien invasive species. There are stands of timber plantations and evidence of grazing, but some parts are in reasonably good condition.
