Justification
A 30% decline in the number of mature individuals over the past three generations is suspected (generation length 30-40 years). Decline is the result of consistently high rates of harvesting of adult individuals for the medicinal plant trade. It therefore qualifies for listing as Vulnerable under criterion A.

Range
This species is endemic to the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu Natal provinces of South Africa, where it occurs from Port Edward to Port St Johns.

Description
Plants grow in river valleys that are rocky and wooded and are often associated with quartzitic sandstone.
Threats
This species is often seen at Faraday traditional medicine market, but not in large quantities (10-15 plants). It is common at KwaZulu-Natal medicinal markets.
