Restio gaudichaudianus is widespread, common and not in danger of extinction. It has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 122 313 km², and is therefore listed as Least Concern.

Range
This widespread species is endemic to South Africa, and occurs from the Bokkeveld Escarpment around Nieuwoudtville southwards to the Cape Peninsula, and eastwards along the Cape Fold mountains to the Groot Winterhoek Mountains of the Eastern Cape.

Description
It occurs on dry rocky lower slopes of mountains.
Threats
Threats to Restio gaudichaudianus include habitat degradation, habitat loss and invasive alien species.
Population

This is a very common species in the Western Cape, with plants forming large clumps among boulders and rocky ledges.
