Threats
This species has declined on the Cape Peninsula and Cape Flats were its habitat has been lost to urban expansion (human settlement and industry). A few subpopulations persist in some open spaces (nature reserves and commonages) within the city boundaries. Around the Vredenburg Peninsula it has also declined due to coastal and industrial development, particularly around Saldanha Bay. Remaining subpopulations on the West Coast between Vredenburg and Cape Town continue to be threatened by habitat loss to development (N.A. Helme pers. comm.). Much of this species' remaining habitat further inland is infested with unmanaged alien invasive plants. In total, less than 40% of this species' habitat remains intact, and the population is becoming increasingly fragmented due to ongoing habitat loss and degradation.
