Description
Drakensberg Foothill Moist Grassland, rock outcrops on steep slopes.
Threats
About 20% of the grasslands on Ngele Mountain has been lost to timber plantations, however, plantations are no longer expanding, and this threat has ceased. Grasslands on the central upper slopes of the mountain are currently in good condition and well-preserved. On the far western side of the mountain however, unmanaged alien invasive plants are starting to spread, and grassland areas between timber plantations are used for livestock grazing. These grasslands are burnt frequently (sometimes several times a year) to improve grazing, and could potentially lead to grassland degradation and loss of sensitive species.
