Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Breede Shale Renosterveld, Breede Quartzite Fynbos
Description
Sandy soils in drainage washes on lower slopes and flats, in transitional areas between shale renosterveld and quartzite fynbos.
Threats
The population is currently threatened by a lack of fire (this species requires fire to regenerate), livestock grazing, and spreading alien invasive plants. Habitat loss to erosion is a potential threat, as plants grow on exposed sandy soils along drainage lines. Disturbance and trampling by livestock may cause destabilisation of these fragile habitats, which is likely to lead to erosion during heavy rainfall.
Population

Plants occur in two small clumps, about 2.6 km apart, on two adjacent farms. One consists of about 20 plants, the second has 17 plants. They are considered to be a single subpopulation, but two locations, as they occur on two separate properties.
