Threats
Nidorella tongensis is threatened by ongoing habitat loss and degradation. Around Richard's Bay habitat loss to urban and industrial development continues, particularly around Richard's Bay Harbour. At Mtunzini, it has lost habitat to timber plantations in the past, and is threatened by competition from alien invasive plants and coastal development. Around Muzi Swamp, it is threatened by ongoing habitat loss and degradation due to shifting subsistence agriculture and overgrazing.
Population

This species is currently known from four locations, but may be overlooked, particularly north of Richard's Bay where its habitat is still mostly intact.
