Agathosma phillipsii is a rare, localized species, but it is not threatened.

Summit ridges and plateaus of the Hex River Mountains between Rooiberg, Matroosberg and Sonkliprug.

Rock crevices at high altitude, 1700-2300 m.
This species' habitat is protected and it has no severe threats.

Agathosma phillipsii is known from a single, localized subpopulation. The size and trend of the population is not known, but it is not suspected to be declining.
