Utricularia foliosa has a restricted range in South Africa. It has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 433 km² and is known from a few collections and does not face any major threats. Therefore, it is listed as Least Concern.

This species is found in the Maputaland area in KwaZulu-Natal, and it is widely distributed in America, Madagascar and Africa, from Senegal, Ethiopia south through to South Africa.

Description
Plants grow in deep to shallow, slowly flowing or still water in marshes, ponds and rivers, up to 1000 m.
Threats
Areas surrounding the species' habitat have been lost to afforestation, urban development and sugarcane fields.
Population

This species is common but known from very few collections in South Africa. It was last recorded in 2011. The status of the population is not known, more field surveys are required to determine its's size and trend.
