Justification | EOO 7 135 km², in spite of extensive habitat loss and fragmentation this subspecies is still fairly common. It however continues to decline due to ongoing habitat loss and degradation as a result of forestry plantations, sugarcane cultivation, urban expansion and alien plant invasion. |

Population |
At least 53% of this taxon's range is already transformed and Midlands grasslands are extensively fragmented. In spite of this it is still fairly common, probably because as a resprouter it has high persistence even in very small, degraded fragments and is somewhat tolerant of disturbance. It requires monitoring.
