Threats
The most severe threat to this species is past and ongoing habitat loss to agriculture: wheat cultivation in the Overberg, deciduous fruit in the Elgin Valley and proteas for the cut flower industry on the Agulhas Plain. In addition competition from alien invasive plants are also affecting subpopulations on the Agulhas Plain and habitat loss to urban expansion may threaten subpopulations around Swellendam and Riversdale.
Population

Occurs as scattered subpopulations in renosterveld fragments. This species has been overlooked in the past and is known from only a few collections, but is also becoming rarer due to habitat loss (Dahlgren 1988).
