Justification
This species is rare, and has a narrow distribution in the northern Drakensberg mountain range. It has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 6527 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 36 km². It is known from eight subpopulations. It is threatened by fire and firewood harvesting, however the impact of this is unknown. It is therefore assessed as Least Concern.

Description
Plants grow at the edges of forest and on rocky outcrops at high altitude.
Threats
This species has lost parts of its habitat to afforestation. It is threatened by fire and firewood harvesting (Boon 2010), but the impact is unknown.
Population

This species is known to exist in about 8 subpopulations and typically occurs at low densities scattered over a wide area. There are 16 herbaria collections of this species with the date range from 1961 to 2009, along with two recent confirmed observation records on iNaturalist. The population trend is unknown, but could decline in future if fire and firewood harvesting are not controlled.
