Justification
Lachenalia variegata is listed as Least Concern in view of its wide distribution. Although threatened by habitat degradation in some parts of its range, it is still fairly common, and unlikely to be declining at nearly the rate required to qualify for listing in a threatened category.

This species is endemic to the Western Cape Province of South Africa, occurring from Clanwilliam to Cape Peninsula, and east of Gansbaai.

Description
It is mainly found in coastal areas in deep sand, flats and hillslopes.
