Justification
Lachenalia whitehillensis has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 2406 km² and an estimated 8-15 locations continue to decline due to habitat loss to crop cultivation. It is therefore listed as Near Threatened.

Range
It is endemic to South Africa, and is found in the Southern Roggeveld Escarpment near Sutherland to Matjiesfontein in the southern Great Karoo.

Description
It grows in sandy soils in riverbeds and on alluvial plains, sometimes in damp places among rocks in riverbeds.
Threats
Some subpopulations have been lost to crop cultivation. Alluvial flats are sought after for crop cultivation in this arid part of the country, and there is ongoing, sporadic expansion of crop fields.
Population

Plants of Lachenalia whitehillensis are solitary or occur in small groups. It is known from eight locations, but it is likely that more subpopulations exist as the majority of this species' habitat remains intact, and it has not yet been thoroughly explored.
