Justification | Lachenalia doleritica is a localized species, known from six locations and potentially threatened by habitat loss and degradation. |
Distribution |
Endemism | South African endemic |
Provincial distribution | Northern Cape |
Range | This species is endemic to the Northern Cape, where it occurs between Nieuwoudtville, Calvinia and Williston. |
Habitat and Ecology |
Major system | Terrestrial |
Major habitats | Roggeveld Karoo, Hantam Karoo |
Description | It occurs on clay flats between dolerite ridges. |
Threats |
Historically, this species has lost about 20% of its habitat to crop fields. There is no significant ongoing loss of habitat as the area where it occurs is only marginally suited to crop cultivation. It is however potentially threatened by sporadic further loss, as well as habitat degradation due to overgrazing. |
Population |
Plants occur singly or in large colonies (Duncan 2012).
