Justification
Lachenalia mutabilis is very common, occuring in over 50 locations and is very widespread with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of more than 85 000 km². This species has lost habitat to crop cultivation, however, it is listed as Least Concern.

Description
It grows in sandy flats, or gravelly clay slopes and stony hillsides.
Threats
Lachenalia mutabilis is threatened due to habitat loss and invasive alien species.
Population

It is a very common species, occurring as scattered individuals, small groups or large colonies numbering hundreds of plants. It is especially abundant in the Citrusdal and Clanwilliam areas (Duncan 2012).
