Threats |
At one known location in South Africa, plants are threatened by ongoing habitat degradation due to severe overstocking of livestock, which has led to a loss of shrub cover and species diversity, particularly on the lower slopes of Numees Mountain, but also increasingly on the upper slopes. Exposure of bare soil due to trampling is leading to erosion, which is causing a decline even in species that are not grazed. This species is not threatened in Namibia. |
Population |
Plants occur as single individuals or in scattered, small clumps. In South Africa it is known from a single subpopulation, which is declining due to overgrazing. It is also rare and localized in southern Namibia (Loots 2005), but the Namibian population is stable. The South African population is isolated from Namibia, and unlikely to benefit from significant rescue effects from the Namibian population.
