Description | Margins of seasonal wetlands in limestone outcrops near the coast. |
Threats |
This species is possibly extinct at the type locality due to habitat loss to coastal development, and if it occurs elsewhere along the coast between De Hoop and Plettenberg Bay, it is likely to be declining due to ongoing habitat loss to rapidly expanding coastal development, especially along the Garden Route. At De Hoop, it is potentially threatened by competition from alien invasive plants, which requires ongoing clearing and management. Areas outside the reserve remain densely infested with unmanaged alien invasive plants, and is likely to be a threat to undiscovered subpopulations. |
Population |
This species remains very poorly known. It was originally collected at an unknown locality near Plettenberg Bay, but has not been relocated in this area and is possibly locally extinct due to habitat loss to coastal development. The only other known subpopulation is more than 200 km to the west, is protected in De Hoop Nature Reserve, where this species is locally common. It has not been recorded in the fairly well-surveyed intervening coastal areas, but is possibly overlooked. If it occurs in these areas, it is likely to be threatened, but an accurate estimate of the size and extent of the population cannot be made at present.
